ST473: Facial Emotion For Mental Wellness System (FEM-Well)

JEVAAN A/L CHANDRAN Universiti Pertahanan National Malaysia

Many university students struggle to verbalize their stress and emotions during counselling sessions due to anxiety or stigma. This silence makes it difficult for counsellors to provide immediate support. The FEM-Well System is a desktop application designed to bridge this communication gap. By using Computer Vision, the system detects a student's non-verbal emotion (such as sadness or stress) in real-time via a webcam. Based on the detected emotion, it automatically recommends therapeutic music from YouTube to help the student relax and open up. The system also features an AI Chatbot that provides counsellors with instant clinical advice and a secure Dashboard to log student emotional trends. This project demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence can be used as an empathetic tool to modernize mental health support in universities.
