Malaysia’s growing seismic risk and new building code creates a need for affordable earthquake safety measures for small to mid-sized buildings. This innovation introduces Counter Snapping Mechanism that uses modular damper cartridges. These cartridges switch from flexible series state to a stiffer parallel state when they reach a critical drift threshold. This change in stiffness adjusts the building's natural frequency. As a result, it reduces the risk of resonance and limits interstory drift without using electronics. Preliminary modeling and prototyping show that this approach offers better vibration control compared to fixed-stiffness bracing and allows for easier installation with lower costs.
