ROHAIZA BINTI ZAKARIA SCHOOL OF QUANTITATIVE SCIENCES

Mastering basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is a fundamental aspect of mathematics education. However, traditional methods such as completing worksheets can often feel monotonous to students. To address this, the Hybrid Arithmetic Puzzle game was developed to enhance students' interest and skills in mathematics through an engaging and interactive approach. Objective of this game is combining the standard crossword mechanics with math puzzles where the clues involve both mathematical problems and wordplay. This game features 20 arithmetic questions, ranging from basic calculations to word problems, designed to challenge and improve mathematical reasoning. Players, grouped into teams of 2-4 primary school students, are given 15 minutes to solve the puzzle collaboratively. The interconnected nature of the puzzle adds an element of complexity, as errors in one answer can affect subsequent solutions due to the dependence of certain digits across multiple answers. The game encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and a solid grasp of multiplication tables, making it a fun yet effective tool for reinforcing foundational arithmetic concepts.
