STV512: Solar-Powered Rainwater Harvesting System For Malaysia Residential Areas During Emergencies

NURUL SYAFIQA BINTI ZAINOL Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)

In Malaysia, frequent droughts disrupt municipal water supplies, leaving communities without clean water. Traditional rainwater harvesting systems, designed for non-potable uses, fail to meet drinking water needs during emergencies. This project proposes a solar-powered rainwater harvesting system inspired by Australia's roof water harvesting technology. Incorporating rooftop catchments, multi-stage filtration, UV sterilization, and solar-powered pumps, the system ensures potable water supply during droughts. A zoning system metering enables smart, controlled water distribution. Aligning with ESG principles, the innovation promotes sustainability, equitable water access, and stakeholder collaboration, addressing Malaysia's water security challenges while fostering environmental and social impact.
