The innovation SaBBAr (Sambung dan Baca Bahasa Arab) is a transliteration-based method that applies Rumi–Arabic letter pairing to enhance pupils’ Arabic reading skills. Classroom observations indicated that many pupils, particularly non-Muslims and remedial learners, experienced difficulties in letter recognition, syllable blending and pronunciation. To address this, SaBBAr integrates gamification, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to improve motivation and engagement. Using the Kemmis and McTaggart (1988) Action Research Model, data were collected through observations, interviews, assessments and document analysis. Findings revealed significant improvement in pupils’ reading ability, confidence and interest, while strengthening teachers’ technology-supported pedagogical practices.
