Risky drinking disproportionately affects Indigenous populations, yet Malaysian interventions remain largely directive and lack cultural adaptation. In line with the Sustainable Development Goal target 3.5 – to strengthen the treatment of substance abuse, this project developed an innovative, culturally adapted brief motivational interviewing tool specifically for the Indigenous Jakun community. Following expert panel reviews and nominal group techniques, the module achieved perfect content and face validity, alongside high acceptability and appropriateness. By bridging communication barriers and incorporating local context, this validated tool offers a novel and evidence-based framework to reduce risky drinking within the unique context of the Jakun community.
