ST177: BioBend Claw Clip

NARRESH SUKUMARAN Kolej Matrikulasi Perlis

It often starts with a small moment—reaching for a claw clip before class, work, or a quick outing. The clip feels tight, uncomfortable, or suddenly snaps with a sharp sound, pulling strands of hair and leaving sore spots on the scalp. For some, especially children and hijab wearers, the rigid shape presses painfully against the head, making it impossible to wear for long hours. These broken clips are usually tossed aside without a second thought, slowly piling up as plastic waste, even though the frustration they cause is felt every single day. This innovation was born from those moments. Instead of using stiff, brittle plastic, the BioBend Claw Clip is made from a carefully designed bioplastic elastomer blend—40% PBS, 35% PBAT, 15% PHA, 5% natural rubber, and 5% bio-based plasticizer. The material bends naturally with movement, absorbing pressure instead of cracking, while still holding hair firmly in place. The teeth are rounded and flexible, gently gripping hair without tugging or breakage, and the inner surface provides extra grip even on oily or wet hair. Its slim, contoured form sits comfortably against the head, making it suitable for long wear and compatible with hijabs. More than just a hair accessory, this claw clip represents a shift toward safer and more thoughtful design. By replacing rigid plastics with a durable, biodegradable bioplastic blend, it reduces the risk of injury, lasts longer, and lessens environmental impact. It turns a small everyday object—often associated with discomfort and waste—into something reliable, gentle, and responsible, proving that even the simplest items can be redesigned with care for both people and the planet.
