The Shining Our Stars, Saving Our Soul (SOS) program addresses the persistent academic challenges faced by Semester 1 students, characterized by declining diagnostic test scores, low motivation, and difficulty adapting to short semester systems. Utilizing a data-driven mixed-methods approach, this program integrates quantitative measures (pre- and post-assessments of STPM performance) and qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, and observations) to evaluate its effectiveness. The methodology includes targeted interventions such as personalized academic support, structured goal-setting, and categorizing students into performance groups (Diamond, Crystal, and Gold) for tailored assistance. Preliminary results from Semester 1 and 2 of 2024 highlight significant improvements: an increase in the overall passing percentage (from 80.08% to 83.90%), higher CGPA averages (from 1.50 to 1.73), and a rise in the number of high-performing students with CGPAs above 3.00. Central to the program’s success are the Teacher Support System, ongoing performance dialogues, and continuous monitoring through SOS Hotspot Forms. These tools enable students to reflect on their progress, identify challenges, and work collaboratively with teachers to enhance outcomes. This study underscores the importance of systematic, tailored interventions in addressing academic difficulties, enhancing student motivation, and fostering improved performance. The early success of the SOS program demonstrates its potential as a sustainable model for academic improvement and holistic student development. Future evaluations will aim to assess its long-term impact and scalability across broader educational contexts.
