SS546: ASSESSING VISITOR PRESSURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE USING THE LIMITS OF ACCEPTABLE CHANGE (LAC) FRAMEWORK AT TAMAN TASIK TAIPING, PERAK

MUHAMMAD IHSAN YUSOF UNIVERSITY TEKNOLOGI MARA (UiTM)

This study evaluates environmental conditions and visitor pressure at Taman Tasik Taiping, an urban heritage park in Malaysia, using the Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) framework. The study finds regional and temporal differences in recreational impacts using a mixed-method approach that includes visitor surveys, visitor counts, field observations, and environmental assessments. The results show that there is concentrated pressure in high-use zones, especially during peak hours, with vegetation trampling and litter accumulation getting close to acceptable limits. The study shows how( LAC) can be used to support sustainable urban park management as a condition-based management tool.
