Intravenous (IV) therapy is an essential medical procedure used to deliver fluids and medications directly into a patient?s bloodstream. However, manual monitoring of IV bags remains common in many healthcare settings, often leading to human errors such as fluid backflow, delayed treatment, and patient discomfort. The rapid digitization of clinical care presents opportunities to automate this process and minimize preventable complications, yet practical and low-cost monitoring solutions remain limited. This project aims to develop a cost-effective and nurse-friendly system to continuously monitor IV fluid levels and provide timely alerts when the fluid volume drops below a set threshold. The proposed system, known as DripSense, is an IoT-aware intelligent IV monitoring device that integrates an ESP32 microcontroller, I2C LCD, MAXstyle LED display, Bluetooth telemetry, a buzzer, and a reset button with countdown logic. It utilizes an alternative, non-load-cell sensing method to detect fluid levels while keeping hardware complexity and calibration requirements minimal. The prototype successfully detected low IV fluid levels and activated alert mechanisms such as a buzzer and LED indicator. Bluetooth telemetry also functioned effectively, allowing remote awareness of IV status. Overall, DripSense demonstrated a reliable, low-cost, and user-friendly solution for clinical use. In conclusion, the system offers a practical pathway toward safer, technology

assisted IV management, improving nurse responsiveness and patient safety. Future enhancements may include further clinical validation, long-term testing, and large-scale deployment in hospital settings.
