STV16: VIRTUAL MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTATION APPLICATION

Mental health is important because it affects everything we do, from how we think and feel to how we interact with others. When our mental health is good, we can handle stress, build strong relationships, and do well in school or work. It also helps keep our bodies healthy, as good mental health is linked to fewer physical problems. However, poor mental health can be dangerous. It can lead to serious issues like anxiety, depression, and even thoughts of self-harm. It can make it hard to function in daily life, damage relationships, and harm physical health. If left untreated, mental health problems can get worse over time, making it crucial to take care of our mental well-being. Based on the statistics given by WHO in 2023 of the current population’s increased concern with mental health, several deficiencies in service delivery have been observed over the past decades. At first, mental health treatment and support was mainly offered through conventional one-on-one, in-person therapy, which, despite its effectiveness, was difficult because of many disparities, including geographic reach, self-identified stigmatized ideas and people’s overall discomfort with seeking help. While the percentage of individuals that were affected by mental health disorders increased in the global population, the traditional model of care failed to address the growing need, particularly in the areas where access to health care and psychological services was limited. Hence, this project aims to design an online platform for the mental health consultation process. By embedding the IoT device into our platform, it will be possible to get broader health data on the patient status, which is currently not applicable in any of the online consultation systems. This approach will help in increasing accessibility, convenience and the success rate of mental health care, especially for patients who cannot be well reached via conventional programs.
