ST292: INHALEIQ: Next-Gen Smart Inhaler For Optimal Health

CHAN RUI HAO Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah

Chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affect more than 700 million people worldwide, with poor adherence to inhaler routines being one of the major challenges in effective disease management. Many patients forget to take their medication on time or fail to monitor their inhaler usage, leading to poor symptom control and increased hospital visits. To address this issue, this project proposes a low-cost, IoT-based smart inhaler system that can track medication usage, send timely reminders, and synchronize real-time data with a mobile application. The system is developed using an ESP32 microcontroller as the main controller, an FSR402 pressure sensor to detect each inhaler press, and a DS3231 real-time clock module for accurate time and date recording. It also features an LCD1602 display to show remaining doses and battery level, and a buzzer to alert users during reminders or when the medication is running low. Power is supplied through a rechargeable 3.7V LiPo battery with a TP4056 charging module and MT3608 voltage booster for stable operation. Using Wi-Fi connectivity, the device communicates with the Blynk app, enabling users to manage reminder times, monitor usage history, and receive notifications, thereby improving treatment adherence and overall respiratory health management.
